All of these marks can be found on the back of brass or bronze belt buckles
supposedly made by Tiffany. They all are all fake. Buckles like these have
been selling for as much as $150 on eBay and reportedly around $100 at some estate
sales. Tiffany never made these types of belt buckles. The source of this information
is the "Guide to Fakes and Reproductions" by Mark Chervenka pg. 211
- 213. The book also states that the wholesale price on these buckles is around
$5 to $10. Which is probably all that these are worth now. Because your
belt buckle may have a different design from above, does not mean it is real.
According to Tiffany
& Co.'s web site they have "...no record that any corporate or western
insignia belt buckles were ever produced by or for Tiffany & Co..." Update:
I have received some feedback stating that the Union Pacific Railroad Museum has
an authentic Tiffany belt buckle in their collection. I learned from a contact
at the museum that the do not have any such item. On June 21, 2004 Maker
of fine jewelry Tiffany and Co. filed suit against eBay saying that eBay is aiding
in the violation of their trademark by selling fake Tiffany items. According to
Tiffany 73% of Jewelry with the Tiffany name sold on eBay are fake. |
