Sad Irons
Sadiron
- A flat iron pointed at both ends and having a removable handle. The sad here
means heavy or compact. Sadirons was an invention of a Mary Florence Potts in
1871. The handle on her invention was removable allowing her to have many iron
bodies heating on the stove. When one cooled a person would just have to remove
the handle and attach it to another iron heating. They are desirable to many people.
Pictured here are some sadirons in amongst others sold recently at auction by
an auctioneer at the
Auction Corner.
